Amritsar, Punjab: In a significant breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police have successfully busted a cross-border arms smuggling module with links to Pakistan, recovering a large cache of sophisticated weapons from village Ghonewal, falling under Police Station Ramdas, near the Ravi river close to the Indo-Pak border.

The recovery includes 2 AK-series assault rifles with 8 magazines, 1 pistol (.30 bore) with 2 magazines, 50 live cartridges (.30 bore), and 245 live cartridges (7.62 mm).

According to the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, the prompt and coordinated action by the Amritsar Rural Police has averted a major untoward incident, especially in light of recent intelligence inputs indicating increased movement of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist elements and escalating inter-gang rivalries in the state’s border areas.

Police officials confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway to uncover the entire nexus behind the smuggling operation, including its backward and forward linkages. Authorities are working to identify key handlers, suppliers, and potential receivers of the recovered arms consignment.
