Mob breaks gate, enters powerhouse in Amritsar

A commotion occurred at the powerhouse located in the village Vadala Bhitte Wadh of Amritsar when some people from nearby villages broke the gate and forcibly entered. Angered, the people themselves restored the power supply that had been cut off and misbehaved with the employees during this process.

According to the employees, they had received orders from senior officials to cut off the electricity. The people who arrived on the spot did not listen to them and tampered with the feeder to restore the supply. It is alleged that some people were intoxicated and entered inside after damaging the gate of the powerhouse.

Pushing, shoving, and threats with employees

Employee Surinder Singh, who was on duty, said that around 20 to 25 people entered the powerhouse late Monday night. They pushed and shoved the employees, abused them verbally, and even threatened to kill them. Following this incident, there is a climate of fear among the employees, and they are worried about their safety.

Police investigation begins, assurance of strict action

After receiving information about the incident, the Thana Kambo police have started an investigation. Police officer Shamsher Singh stated that a complaint from the electricity department has been received and the investigation into the matter is ongoing. He said that the culprits will be identified and strict legal action will be taken against them.

Employees demand increased security

Electricity department employees have demanded the administration to take strict action against the accused and especially to make strong security arrangements for employees working night shifts.
