Amritsar: Speeding car loses control, overturns after hitting bike; 4 held

A major road accident was averted near Amritsar’s Chatiwind Bridge when a speeding car lost control and overturned. The incident occurred while the car was approaching the Taranwala Bridge. According to eyewitnesses, the car was traveling at a very high speed.

The car suddenly lost control, first hitting a motorcycle, then spinning several times and then overturning on the canal bank. Fortunately, the car did not fall into the canal, otherwise, there could have been significant loss of life and property. Four young men were in the car at the time of the accident. The impact was so severe that the motorcyclist, Mandeep Singh, was thrown approximately 20 feet away.

Motorcyclist injured 

The injured Mandeep explained that he was riding his Activa scooter when a loud explosion struck him from behind. He tried to grab the steering wheel, but the car was moving at a very high speed. He said that his turban saved his life, although he suffered serious head and body injuries.

Drink and Drive suspected 

The young men in the car say the vehicle was traveling at around 60 kilometers per hour, but based on the situation at the scene, overspeeding is suspected. Locals also suspected the young men were drunk.

A police team arrived at the scene upon receiving information. Investigating officer Mohit Kumar stated that all four young men have been taken into custody, and the driver will undergo a medical examination. The police are investigating the matter seriously and strict legal action will be taken if anyone is found guilty.
