Amritsar Tightens Security Ahead of Operation Blue Star Anniversary Observance

Amritsar, Punjab: Security has been significantly strengthened in Amritsar ahead of the observance of Operation Blue Star anniversary events, commonly referred to as Ghallughara Week, on June 6. The Amritsar Police have intensified precautionary measures and are conducting continuous flag marches across the city to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of devotees.

According to police officials, the flag marches will continue until June 6 as part of a broader security plan aimed at preventing any untoward incidents.

Sensitive Areas Under Enhanced Surveillance

The flag marches are being carried out in key markets, the old city areas, and around the Golden Temple and other sensitive locations.

During the patrols, police personnel are also interacting with local residents and visitors to inform them about the security arrangements. Officials said the initiative is intended to boost public confidence and help authorities monitor any attempts to spread rumors or engage in disruptive activities.

Special Security Plan Prepared

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said a comprehensive security strategy has been put in place for the commemorative period.

He revealed that multiple coordination meetings have been held with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to ensure smooth management of the events and the movement of devotees.

Five CAPF Companies Deployed

As part of the enhanced security measures, five companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have arrived in Amritsar and have been deployed in the city’s outer areas.

The deployment is aimed at strengthening the overall security grid and providing additional support to local law enforcement agencies during the observance period.

Around 2,500 Punjab Police Personnel on Duty

Authorities have also deployed approximately 2,500 Punjab Police officers and personnel to safeguard the Golden Temple complex and various locations within the city.

The city has been divided into multiple sectors to ensure effective monitoring and rapid response capabilities. Senior officers are overseeing security arrangements across different zones.

Increased Patrolling and Vehicle Checks

Police officials said special emphasis is being placed on patrolling, checkpoints, and vehicle inspections throughout the city.

Security personnel have been instructed to maintain heightened vigilance at sensitive locations while ensuring that devotees are treated with courtesy and cooperation. Authorities aim to facilitate a smooth and peaceful experience for pilgrims arriving from across India and abroad.

Officials stressed that the objective of the security operation is not only to prevent any potential disturbances but also to reassure residents and visitors that adequate arrangements are in place.

With thousands of devotees expected to visit Amritsar during the commemorative week, authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activity immediately.
