Anahat Singh Scripts History, Wins Silver Medal In Squash Singles At Asian Games 2026

Indian squash star Anahat Singh scripted history by winning the silver medal in the women’s singles squash event at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Sunday.

The 18-year-old became the first Indian woman to reach the Asian Games women’s singles squash final. She faced Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in the gold-medal clash but went down 4-11, 4-11, 7-11 in a straight-games defeat.

Anahat Singh Creates History In Asian Games Squash

Anahat’s silver marked a historic achievement for Indian women’s squash at the continental Games. She had reached the final after producing a remarkable comeback victory over Japan’s world No. 6 Satomi Watanabe in the semifinals.

Anahat recovered from losing the opening two games and saved match points before completing a 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3 victory to become the first Indian woman to reach the Asian Games singles squash final.

Sivasangari Claims Gold In Women’s Singles Final

In the final, Malaysia’s Sivasangari controlled the contest from the beginning. She won the first two games 11-4, 11-4 before Anahat put up greater resistance in the third game.

However, Sivasangari closed out the final 11-7 to secure the gold medal, while Anahat took silver after a historic campaign. The final lasted 27 minutes.

Anahat had entered the Asian Games after becoming the first Indian to win the World Junior Squash Championships, adding further significance to her breakthrough performance in the senior competition.

The silver also contributed to India’s medal tally at the ongoing Asian Games 2026, where Anahat and Abhay Singh both won silver medals in the individual squash events.
