Patna: The Janata Dal (United) has expelled Mokama MLA Anant Singh from the party for six years over alleged anti-party activities. The party has also recommended cancelling his membership of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
The decision was announced in Patna on Saturday, October 24, marking a major disciplinary action against the legislator. Reports also said that Singh’s wife, Neelam Devi, was expelled from the party for six years.
Why Did JDU Take Action Against Anant Singh?
The action follows a dispute within the party over the Bihar Legislative Council elections. Anant Singh had openly opposed JDU candidate Neeraj Kumar and extended his support to Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh in the Patna Graduates’ constituency.
Singh had earlier made it clear that his opposition to Neeraj Kumar was personal. He accused the JDU leader of working against him in the past and said he wanted to ensure that Neeraj Kumar did not win the election.
His decision to campaign against his own party’s candidate created a serious disagreement with the JDU leadership. The party viewed his conduct as a violation of party discipline and subsequently moved against him.
Who Is Anant Singh?
Anant Singh is a prominent political figure from Mokama in Bihar and has represented the constituency in the state Assembly multiple times. He is popularly known as “Chhote Sarkar” in the region.
His political career has also been marked by criminal cases and controversies. He was arrested in connection with the murder of Dularchand Yadav ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Singh later received bail from the Patna High Court in the case, according to the report provided.
Despite his legal troubles, Singh contested the 2025 Assembly election on a JDU ticket and won the Mokama seat.
JDU Seeks Action Against His Assembly Membership
Apart from expelling Singh from the party, the JDU has recommended that his Assembly membership be cancelled. The recommendation does not mean that his membership has already been terminated; any further action will depend on the applicable process and the competent authority’s decision.
The expulsion comes amid tensions within the JDU over the recent council election campaign. Singh’s decision to back a rival party’s candidate had put him at odds with the party leadership.
The latest move raises questions about Singh’s political future and his relationship with the JDU. For now, the party has ended his membership for six years and sought further action regarding his position as Mokama MLA.
