Patna: Bihar MLA Anant Singh has announced plans to launch his own political party after being expelled from the Janata Dal (United), JD(U), for six years over alleged anti-party activities. Singh said he had no regrets over the decision and claimed that the party had no political future.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Singh said the public’s decision was more important to him than the party’s action. He also said the JD(U) belonged to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and questioned what remained of the party after his departure.
“I have no regrets. The public is like God, and whatever action they have taken, it was the right decision. I have no problem with it. The party belonged to Nitish Kumar, and he made the decisions himself. What is left in the party now? Who contributed to it? The party has expelled me, but what have those people done? What will we do next?” Singh said.
He further claimed that the JD(U) would face difficulties in at least 10 seats during the elections. Singh also questioned who had ordered his expulsion, suggesting that those who had taken control of the party could be responsible.
“Nitish Kumar is no longer there. The party belonged to him, and now that he is gone, the party is also finished. The JD(U) will face trouble in at least 10 seats. I do not know who ordered this action; perhaps those who have taken control of the party are responsible,” he added.
Anant Singh Says He Will Form His Own Party
Singh made it clear that he intends to continue his political journey and form a separate party. He said he had never asked the JD(U) for a ticket and would remain where he was for now.
“I will make my own party. I will stay where I am; I never asked for a ticket. I believe the JD(U) has no future. It will become clear during the elections,” he said.
Despite his criticism of the party, Singh said he had no personal differences with Nitish Kumar and would meet him again.
“I have no differences or disputes with Nitish Kumar. I will meet him again,” he said.
He also said he would not speak against Nitish Kumar, regardless of which political party he joined in the future.
“I will never criticise Nitish Ji, whatever party I go to,” Singh added.
Why JD(U) Expelled Anant Singh and His Wife
The JD(U) expelled Mokama MLA Anant Singh and his wife, former MLA Neelam Devi, for six years over alleged anti-party activities during the recent Bihar Legislative Council elections.
JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha announced the decision on Saturday. The party cited repeated violations of its directives, alleged derogatory remarks against senior leadership and Singh’s decision to oppose the party’s candidate in the Patna Graduates’ constituency election.
The party also accused Singh of campaigning for a candidate associated with Jan Suraaj.
In a letter announcing the action, Kushwaha said Singh’s primary membership had been terminated for six years.
JD(U) Seeks Action Against Anant Singh’s Assembly Membership
The JD(U) has also written to the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, seeking action against Singh’s membership under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution. The schedule deals with disqualification of legislators on grounds of defection.
Singh’s announcement comes amid tensions within the JD(U) following the disciplinary action against him and his wife. His plan to launch a separate party could add another dimension to Bihar’s political contest.
Singh has predicted electoral setbacks for the JD(U), but the impact of his proposed move will become clearer during the elections.
