Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday took stock of relief operations in various cyclone-affected districts and also gave instructions to officials to continue with their efforts to bring back normalcy in all areas.

The CM, during a teleconference with officials from various departments and district collectors, was told that most of the affected areas have returned to normalcy. A preliminary report has also been prepared regarding extent of damage due to the cyclone.

The Chief Minister said that efforts should be made to expedite compensation to affected people (excluding crop losses) and ensure that people receive due assistance. The administration should be with the people during natural calamities.

The CM appreciated the efforts of officials during the cyclone Arnab and said that it helped in reducing damage to life and property.

Power Supply to Be Restored By Friday

The CM said that Andhra Pradesh is facing various weather related problems. Rayalaseema district is facing problems due to El Nino while other areas of the state have been affected by cyclone Arnab.

He said that there are no favourable conditions for sowing of crops in Rayalaseema. Crops have been damaged/destroyed in coastal areas of North Andhra, Godavari districts. Coconut plantations have also faced losses.

The CM said that an organised effort should be made to assist people.

Most of the trees have been removed but he said that officials should remove any trees that may be lying on roads immediately. The debris that has been caused should also be cleared.

The CM gave instructions to officials to restore power supply in all areas by Friday. He also said that measures have been taken to avoid tank and canal damage.

Officials Asked To Expedite Damage Assessment

The CM said a government order has been issued regarding compensation. Officials should prepare an estimate of the damage quickly. Officials should also try to see if any crops that have been flooded can be saved.

He said that agricultural officials, scientists and students can look into ways to avoid total destruction of crops due to soil and silt. Technology should be used to quicken the crop loss estimation.

The CM also asked officials to look into whether trees and plants such as coconut palms and horticultural crops can be replanted.

The administration should implement suitable schemes to compensate farmers in agriculture and horticulture sectors for their losses due to the cyclone.
