Anganwadi centers to be converted into Anganwadi-cum-pre-schools: CM Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stated that all 18,925 Anganwadi centers in the state are being upgraded into ‘Anganwadi-cum-Pre-schools’. Here, children aged 3 to 6 years will receive play-based early childhood education.

Anganwadi workers will be provided with special training to strengthen the foundation of children’s education. The Chief Minister said that in the last three years, the state government has taken significant and bold steps under its system transformation initiative.

The objective is to empower women and make them self-reliant, thereby ensuring inclusive development. Sukhu said that in the last three years, the child sex ratio in the state has increased from 947 to 964. This improvement is a result of the government’s continuous and serious efforts towards the safety and respect of girl children.

This positive development has laid the foundation for several new and welfare-oriented initiatives. The Chief Minister said that under the Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojana, a sum of ₹25,000 is deposited at the time of birth for daughters born into families living below the poverty line. Additionally, both parents are provided with life insurance coverage of ₹2 lakh each, the amount of which can be received when the daughter turns 18 or, at her discretion, up to the age of 27.

He said that this scheme has further strengthened the ‘Beti Hai Anmol Yojana’ (Daughter is Precious Scheme). To provide security to working women, the government has decided to construct 13 new women’s hostels in various districts, including Solan, Palampur, Baddi, Gagret, and Nagrota Bagwan. These will be built at an estimated cost of ₹132 crore. These hostels will provide safe and affordable accommodation to women.
