Anna Hazare Discharged From Bombay Hospital, Says He Wants To Serve People Till He Is 100

Mumbai: Veteran social activist Anna Hazare was discharged from Bombay Hospital on Thursday, 10 days after being admitted with a urinary infection.

Speaking to reporters after his discharge, Hazare said his health had improved and reiterated that his aim was to continue serving people for as long as he was alive.

Hazare, who said he is now 90 years old, said he wanted to complete 100 years.

“Right now, my health is good. My health had deteriorated a bit, but now it has gotten better. I am 90 years old now, want to complete 100 years.”

He said he had served the people and the nation throughout his life and wanted to continue doing so.

“Till date, till the age of 90, I have served the people and the nation. I still want to continue serving until I turn 100 years old,” Hazare said, describing selfless service to people as a form of worship.

Hazare Says Money And Wealth Are Not His Aim

Hazare said serving people had remained the central purpose of his life and that he was not concerned about his bank balance or personal wealth.

“I want to serve the people as long as I am alive. I have dedicated my entire life to the service.”

He said money and wealth were not his goals and that his focus remained on public service.

    Doctor Explains Reason Behind Hospitalisation

Dr Gautam Bhansali, under whose care Hazare was admitted, said the activist had initially suffered from viral fever and loose motions, for which he was treated at a hospital in Shirur.

He later developed severe dehydration and viral illness, which led to urinary problems. His creatinine level also increased significantly, resulting in a urine infection and requiring admission to Bombay Hospital.

Earlier, supporters and well-wishers across the country had expressed concern and prayed for Hazare’s speedy recovery.

Hazare is one of India’s prominent anti-corruption crusaders and social reformers. He gained recognition for transforming his native village, Ralegan Siddhi in Maharashtra, into a model village through initiatives focused on watershed development, afforestation, rural self-reliance and addiction eradication.
