Every two to three months, a tragic incident involving domestic flights brings heartbreak to those traveling by air. Recently, the countrymen undertook the Char Dham Yatra with great enthusiasm. Currently, travelers are returning. Wealthy individuals prefer to travel by air, regardless of the cost. These days, bookings for domestic flights increase. Fares also fluctuate according to demand. In such an environment, when a plane or helicopter crash occurs, tourists become worried. We want to attract travelers from India and abroad for religious tourism, especially to the pilgrimage sites of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The latest accident occurred on Friday when a helicopter flying from Badrinath to Sahasradhara in Dehradun crashed due to poor weather. Six people, including the pilot, were killed in the accident. Five of these passengers were returning from the Badrinath shrine. One of the deceased was a Karnataka police officer. A preliminary investigation has determined the primary cause of the helicopter crash was flying in adverse weather. Following the accident, helicopter service provider Trans Bharat suspended flights. While this is the first accident during the Chardham Yatra, there have been 22 helicopter accidents since 2008, resulting in 56 deaths on the Chardham Yatra route. Despite this, any negligence during such a critical and dangerous flight should be considered a serious crime. The pilot of this helicopter was Captain Himanshu Sabharwal, a retired Air Force officer. The helicopter’s registration is said to be nine years old, from 2017. Eight helicopter companies provide services in Badrinath and Kedarnath. It’s common to hear that machinery can break down at any time, and nature can take a turn for the worse. But why haven’t helicopter flights been banned during bad weather? Why does passenger pressure and the lure of helicopter services to earn higher profits continue these services? According to sources, even after this accident, five helicopter flights continued in the same weather. Isn’t it time to understand the value of human life? Should regulations be tightened? The policy of charging higher fares in adverse conditions should be stopped.
