Ansar soldier shot dead in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, accused accomplice arrested

Dhaka (Bangladesh): An Ansar soldier was shot dead by his companion on Monday evening in the Bhaluka sub-district of Mymensingh district, Bangladesh. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Bajendra Biswas, while the accused Ansar soldier has been identified as Noman Mian.

Monindra Nath, acting general secretary of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, confirmed the incident.

Shot fired in factory premises, shot hit the leg

The incident occurred around 6:30 pm on Monday (December 29) inside the Sultana Sweaters Limited factory, where around 20 Ansar soldiers were deployed on security duty.

According to reports, the deceased, Bajendra Biswas, was a resident of Kadirpur village in Sylhet Sadar sub-district. The accused, Noman Mian, is a resident of the Baluturi Bazar area of ​​the Taherpur police station area in Sunamganj district.

Local sources stated that the two soldiers were sitting together when a bullet fired from Noman Mian’s gun struck Bajendra’s left leg, leaving him in critical condition.

He was immediately rushed to a health center, where doctors declared him dead.

Eyewitness: “Should I shoot?” and then pulled the trigger

APC Mohammad Azhar Ali, an Ansar member posted in the Labib Group and an eyewitness, stated that Noman placed the gun on Bajendra’s thigh and asked, “Should I shoot?”

and then pulled the trigger. He then attempted to flee the scene.

The eyewitness also clarified that no altercation was observed between them before the incident.

Immediate action, police investigation underway

Mymensingh District’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration), Mohammed Abdullah Al Mamun, stated that the accused was arrested immediately after an operation.

He said that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the actual cause of the shooting. The body has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for a postmortem, and legal proceedings are underway.
