Anudeep Reddy’s Olympic Dream, Indian Lacrosse Team Eyes 2026 Asian Games

New Delhi: India’s Anudeep Reddy is not only dreaming of the Olympics, but is also working towards strengthening lacrosse in the country. Amid preparations for the 2026 Asian Games, he said his goal is to create a system that will enable India to become a powerhouse in the sport in the coming years.

Excellent Performance and Upcoming Tournaments

India performed brilliantly at the Asian Lacrosse Games in Riyadh this year, winning gold medals in both the men’s and women’s Sixes events.

The team’s upcoming major tournaments include the Asian Lacrosse Games in Chengdu and the Asia-Pacific Sixes Championship in Australia, which will also be qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

Journey from Hockey to Lacrosse

Law student and former hockey player Reddy learned about lacrosse through multi-sport events like the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

His hockey experience proved beneficial, and he quickly earned a place in the national team. In just three years, he led India to a historic gold medal at the Asian Lacrosse Games.

Challenges and Way Forward

The sport, which began in India in 2008, is still in its infancy and faces challenges like lack of infrastructure and awareness. The players themselves are working to promote the sport.

Reddy said the team’s goal is to build a strong foundation not only for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, but also for future Olympics like Brisbane 2032 and beyond.
