New Delhi: In a major heist, armed men looted cash and gold worth nearly ₹21 crore from the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Chadchan, Vijayapura district, Karnataka on Tuesday.
According to police, three masked men entered the branch under the pretext of opening a current account. Armed with country-made pistols and knives, the gang threatened staff, tied their hands and feet, and forced them to open the vaults. They escaped with ₹1 crore in cash and 20 kilograms of gold.
The staff were reportedly locked inside a toilet before the accused fled the scene in a Suzuki EVA vehicle with a fake number plate, heading towards Maharashtra’s Pandharpur region.
Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi confirmed that a case has been registered and a manhunt is underway.
The incident comes just months after a ₹53.26 crore robbery at Canara Bank’s Managuli branch in the same district, where a significant portion of the stolen assets was later recovered.
