Armed Robbery at Jeweller’s Shop in Jalandhar; Loot Worth Over ₹2 Lakh

Jalandhar: In a shocking incident in broad daylight, three masked robbers armed with a pistol and swords looted a jeweller’s shop in the Bhargava Camp area of Jalandhar, Punjab, on Thursday. The criminals fled the spot within minutes, escaping with jewellery and cash estimated to be worth over ₹2 lakh.

Robbery Caught on CCTV Cameras

The entire incident, which took place at Vijay Jewellers, was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the shop. The footage shows the armed men entering the shop, threatening the jeweller’s son, and breaking glass counters to steal gold ornaments and cash.

Jeweller’s Son Threatened at Gunpoint

At the time of the robbery, Deepak, the shop owner’s son, was sitting inside.
According to police, as soon as the masked men entered, they brandished a pistol and swords, pointing the weapons at Deepak.

Frightened, he ran to a corner of the shop, pleading with the robbers not to harm him. The miscreants then demanded cash, and Deepak handed them a wad of notes from a drawer. Despite this, the men continued looting the jewellery displayed on the counters.

Glass Counters Smashed, Shots Fired

The robbers smashed the glass counters using sword-like weapons to access the ornaments. One of them allegedly fired a shot when the shopkeeper shouted for help — but the bullet missed.

Within minutes, the trio filled their bags with jewellery and fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of panic in the crowded marketplace.

Locals Tried to Intervene

Eyewitnesses said some nearby shopkeepers tried to chase and overpower the robbers, but the men managed to escape. During the scuffle, the robbers allegedly changed their clothes to evade recognition — a moment also captured on surveillance cameras.

Police Launch Investigation

Police reached the scene shortly after receiving information and have begun an intensive investigation. The CCTV footage is being examined to trace the accused.

According to Vijay, the shop owner, the robbers looted gold jewellery and cash worth over ₹2 lakh. He claimed the attackers had possibly conducted a recce before carrying out the heist.

Jewellers Demand Security

The incident has triggered anger and fear among the local trader community. Shopkeepers in the Suniyara Bazaar warned that they may close their shops and protest if the culprits are not arrested soon.

“The situation has become unsafe for shop owners. We demand better security and swift action,” one trader said.

Police have registered a case and are scanning CCTV footage to identify and arrest the accused.
