Artificial Intelligence: A Gift or a Threat to Humanity?

The collective knowledge of digitization, computers, and the power of the internet is proving artificial intelligence to be a significant gift to the world. It seems as if nothing in the world today can be accomplished without its use. From medicine to education, artificial intelligence’s importance has grown so much that courses and syllabi on artificial intelligence have become a mandatory part of every educational institution in India.

But artificial intelligence is constantly advancing, leaving behind the robotic era. It is advancing so far that even its inventors and operators are astonished. According to recent reports, new artificial intelligence devices are even being used to demonstrate autonomous intelligence.

If artificial intelligence begins to use its intelligence beyond the control of its operators, it could be a dangerous situation for the world. We have heard the story of Bhasmasura, who, upon his appearance, became eager to devour his own creator. Here too, the major companies operating artificial intelligence, which have invested billions of dollars in its development, are alarmed by its unexpectedly growing power.

They say that if this intelligence, with its own independent intelligence, is born, humans will not be able to control it. If it makes a rash decision, who will be responsible for the destruction it causes?

Anthropic is a major company involved in artificial intelligence in the world. Its Chief Executive Officer, Dario Amodei, issued a statement in which he urged the slowing down of the development of artificial intelligence. At every step, its inventors, the humans, should continue to take safety measures.

Amodei warned that if the pace of AI development is not slowed, within the next six to twelve months, AI could become so powerful that it could indirectly take over the entire Internet and broadcast its decisions beyond human control.

This warning is being issued both within and outside the AI world. The invention that was supposed to be a force is now becoming a destroyer. In such a situation, it is crucial for inventors and operators to heed this warning and develop a program to control this superpower right now, even if it means slowing down the pace of artificial intelligence development.

The entire world has witnessed the horrific carnage that has occurred when this power has fallen into the hands of irresponsible dictators. The dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan during World War II caused such widespread devastation and radioactivity that even generations in these cities have suffered its torment.

Since then, how many countries have become nuclear-armed? One reason for the current US-Iran war in West Asia to stall is that the US does not want Iran to become nuclear-armed. This power was developed for peaceful development.
