Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann met Sanjeev Arora in Gurugram jail

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made a surprise visit to Gurugram on Saturday. Both leaders went straight to Bhondsi jail, where they met with jailed former minister Sanjeev Arora.

After receiving permission from the jail administration, the two leaders spoke with Arora in a separate room for about 20 minutes.

ED arrested in GST scam case

Former minister Sanjeev Arora was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 9. He is accused of money laundering and involvement in an alleged fraudulent GST scam worth over ₹100 crore.

Following his arrest, the ED initially took him on 7-day remand. Later, the agency was granted an additional 2-day remand. After the interrogation was completed, the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

AAP openly supports Arora after his arrest

Following Sanjeev Arora’s arrest, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) consistently expressed its support for him. Party leaders alleged that the central government was using investigative agencies to suppress opposition leaders.

Now, Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal’s visits to jail are being seen as a significant sign of this support.

Increased turmoil in Punjab politics

Sanjeev Arora has been active in both Punjab politics and industry. After joining the Aam Aadmi Party, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha and later became one of the party’s prominent figures.

His arrest has sparked a political uproar in Punjab. Political experts believe that this meeting between Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann may be an attempt to send a political message.
