Asha Bhosle cremated with full state honours at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park

Mumbai: A golden era of Indian music came to an end when legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle was cremated with full state honours at Mumbai’s iconic Shivaji Park on Monday.

The singer, popularly known as ‘Asha Tai’, died on Sunday, April 12, at the age of 92, from multi-organ failure following a cardiac arrest. She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital due to breathing problems and a chest infection.

The Maharashtra government honored her contribution to the nation by granting her a state funeral.

An emotional farewell and a sea of ​​people
Her body was kept for the last darshan at her residence in Lower Parel from 11 am to 3 pm, where thousands of fans and film personalities came to pay their respects.

The funeral procession then proceeded from Dombivali to Dadar, where a large crowd gathered. She was cremated at around 5 p.m. with a 21-gun salute and a guard of honor from the police.

This farewell ceremony was reminiscent of the tributes paid to her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar, which were also held at the same location.

Tributes from the Political and Film World
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Sunetra Pawar, ministers, and several political leaders, including Raj Thackeray and other prominent figures, attended the funeral.

Many Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan, also paid tribute to her, calling her “the most versatile voice” in music history.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences, saying that her music will continue to enrich India’s cultural heritage.

Immortal Legacy
In a career spanning over eight decades, Asha Bhosle set a Guinness World Record for singing over 12,000 songs. He lent his voice to every genre, from classical bhajans to ghazals to pop songs like “Dum Maro Dum.”

He was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Padma Vibhushan, and two National Film Awards.

His passing has left a deep void in the music world, but his voice will always live on in people’s hearts.
