Attempt to Spread Panic Through Threats in Punjab

This is not the first instance where attempts have been made to spread panic and terror in Punjab and Chandigarh through threats of bomb blasts. This past Monday, a similar attempt to instill fear through threats was made once again. Previously, threats to blow up schools, hospitals, and secretariats in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh had been received; however, the difference this time was that multiple cities were targeted using emails following an identical pattern. Immediately upon receiving the threats, access to the concerned locations was restricted. A large-scale search operation was conducted, but no explosives were found anywhere. Whenever such threats are received, the concerned institutions—including schools, hospitals, and similar establishments—are evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The police must take these threats seriously. The organizations or individuals orchestrating this game of spreading terror must be apprehended. However, so far, only one suspect has been identified. On Monday, threats of bomb blasts at dozens of locations across Punjab and Chandigarh kept the entire region in a state of panic throughout the day. Messages targeting various schools, government offices, and court complexes were sent to different cities. The primary cities targeted included Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Batala, and Ferozepur. Agencies conducted extensive search operations; yet, despite the threats, the day passed without incident.

Undoubtedly, it may come as a relief to the common man that, thus far, none of the threats received have actually materialized, and there has been no loss of life or property. However, one cannot simply sit idly by, assuming that these threats will prove to be hollow in the future as well. The only solution is to technically trace and apprehend those responsible for sending these threatening emails. Sending such alarming messages across multiple cities is not the work of a lone individual; the syndicate behind these acts must be exposed so that the public can find relief.
