Jalandhar: An attempted robbery took place on Saturday evening in a busy and bustling area of Jalandhar West. Vipan Verma, owner of Vipan Jewellers, said two unidentified young men came to his shop on the pretext of looking at silver.
Miscreants Posed as Customers
The accused asked to see a silver bracelet. When he showed them the bracelet, the robbers asked for more, but in the meantime, another accomplice entered the shop. Verma placed the silverware on the counter.
Gun Pointed at Shop Owner’s Wife
Meanwhile, another man pointed a pistol at Verma’s wife. Vipan Verma, demonstrating courage, jumped on them, driving the robbers away. Police, responding to the information, have launched an investigation. Efforts are being made to identify the accused using the shop’s CCTV footage.

According to shop owner Vipan Verma, both the youths were armed with weapons and their faces were covered. The miscreants tried to scare him by showing weapons. At that time his wife was also present in the shop. Seeing the situation getting worse, the businessman crossed the counter and attacked himself, due to which the accused got scared. They left from there. Both the accused had come on foot. The shopkeepers nearby were also scared by the incident.
Traders Panic After Incident
Other traders in the market are also scared after the incident. They expressed anger over the increasing number of crimes. Traders and locals say that this area is very busy, the police station is also nearby, yet the criminals are emboldened.
Demand for Strict Police Action
People appealed to CP Dhanpreet Kaur that crime incidents are increasing in the West area. Businessman Verma said that robberies, fights and criminal incidents are continuously increasing in the West area. Thieves have no fear of the law anymore. He said that hard-working people are being targeted again and again. He appealed to Aam Aadmi Party cabinet minister Mohinder Bhagat to pay attention to his area as crimes are increasing in the West area compared to other areas of Jalandhar. He should give strict orders to the police and check posts should be set up in the area.
Appealing to the administration for increased security,
the businessman stated that this demand is not just for his own safety, but for the safety of the entire area. If concrete steps aren’t taken in time, a major incident cannot be ruled out in the future. He has opened eight to ten shops in this square, extending beyond that. Beyond that, there’s the entire market. There should be a permanent checkpoint manned by two employees. PCR patrols should also be increased.
