August Kranti Maidan Protest: FIR Filed Against Imran Khan and Others After Detention

Mumbai: Mumbai Police have filed an FIR against actor Imran Khan and others in connection with the August Kranti Maidan protest. These individuals were detained during the demonstration at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. The protest was held in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest in Delhi. The CJP in Delhi had demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar amid the controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

According to Mumbai Police, the FIR was filed at the Gamdevi Police Station under sections 223 (disobedience to order), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 189(2), 189(3), and 189(5) (provisions relating to unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complaint in this case was filed by police personnel.

According to the police, more than 400 people were detained in Mumbai during the protest.

A video of Imran also went viral on social media, in which he was heard saying “Jai Hind” to the policemen. In another video, he spoke about his detention, saying, “I really don’t know why I was brought here. They picked us all up from the street and asked us to get into the van.”

Imran further explained that he and others were driven around in a police van for about two hours before being released.

“I came as a citizen of Mumbai”

Before boarding the police van, “Delhi Belly” actor Imran Khan said that he had no special demands and was simply attending the protest as a citizen of Mumbai.

He said, “Sir, I have no demands. I have no position to demand anything from the people. I’m not part of any organization, so I’m not speaking as a representative of anyone.”
