Road accident near Sydney: Teenager dies

Sydney: A teenage girl has died and four others have been hospitalized, two of them in critical condition, after a two-vehicle collision southwest of Sydney. According to police, a sedan and a utility vehicle collided in the town of Appin, 53 kilometers from central Sydney, around 8 p.m. Thursday.

A 17-year-old girl in the sedan died at the scene, Xinhua news agency reported.

Two in critical condition, others with minor injuries

Police said the 46-year-old male driver and a 30-year-old female passenger in the sedan were taken to hospital in critical condition. A 12-year-old boy in the same vehicle sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized.

The 22-year-old driver of the utility vehicle also sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital under police escort for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Accident investigation launched

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Previous Queensland incident: Elderly woman killed in collision with alleged stolen car

In November last year, an elderly woman was killed and three others injured in a collision with a car allegedly stolen at gunpoint in the northern Australian state of Queensland. According to police, the 69-year-old woman’s vehicle was struck by an allegedly stolen blue Audi car driven by a 16-year-old boy north of Brisbane.

CPR failed to save life, teenage driver arrested

Police and paramedics attempted CPR on the woman at the scene of the accident in the Murrumba Downs area, but she could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and hospitalized with serious leg injuries.

Car also collided with police vehicle, injuring two officers

Following the initial collision, the Audi also collided with a nearby unmarked police car, injuring two officers who were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Queensland Police reported that a woman was threatened with a weapon in a nearby area and the same blue Audi car was robbed. Police said, “The weapon used in the alleged robbery has been recovered.
