Two Complaints Filed Against Badshah’s “Teteeree” Song; Depicts Objectionable Lyrics and Visuals

Chandigarh: Bollywood rapper-singer Badshah’s Haryanvi folk song “Teteeree” has sparked controversy. Two separate complaints have been filed regarding the song. The first complaint was filed by Savita Arya of Panipat with the Haryana Women’s Commission, and the second complaint was filed by Rohtak advocate Rajnarayan Panghal with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

The complaint questioned Badshah’s rap line. They alleged that the song used obscene language and depicted minor girls in school uniforms throwing school bags.

The song was released on March 1st. Kaithal resident Simran Jaglan also features in the song. She is the daughter of Haryanvi singer Karambir Fauji. The song “Teteeree” has already garnered over 2 million listens on YouTube.

    Alleged Objectionable Content and Visuals

In the song, young girls, dressed in Haryana government school uniforms, are shown throwing their books and running away from their studies, which is very inappropriate.

According to the complaint, singer Badshah raps lines in the song that promote extremely vulgar and offensive language.

The complaint also states that the visuals and lyrics send a negative message to society that education is not important. This could lead children to perceive foul and vulgar language as normal. Especially when young children are depicted in school uniforms, this could lead to other children also being discouraged from studying.

    Legal Concerns Cited by Complainants

According to the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, it is the duty of the Commission to investigate anything that is wrong with children.

According to Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, it is wrong to harass children mentally or emotionally or to do anything against their welfare.

According to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, it is the responsibility of both the government and society to encourage children to study. Showing children in school uniforms shirking their studies is against this rule.
