Balachaur: Youth shot dead during wedding ceremony, probe on

A youth was shot dead during a wedding ceremony at a marriage palace in Balachaur. The deceased has been identified as Taranjit Singh, a resident of Saroya, who had recently returned from the US.

The police have registered a case of murder against two youths on the statement of the deceased’s grandfather, Baldev Singh, a retired officer of the Indian Air Force.

According to the complainant, he had come to the palace along with his family to attend a relative’s wedding. At around 5 pm, his grandson Taranjit Singh went to get some belongings from a car parked in the parking lot.

Meanwhile, Haven Chaudhary, a resident of Khakdhana, and Jagdish alias Joni, a resident of Uttarakhand, who were already there, started abusing him. During this, Haven took out a pistol and shot Taranjit Singh in the stomach.

After which both the accused fled the spot. Taranjit was rushed to a private hospital in Nawanshahr in an injured condition, where doctors declared him dead. Police are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
