Rights Body Flags Alarming Security Situation in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad: HRCP highlighted the alleged kidnapping of the vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, and two staff members of Gwadar University, who were travelling from Gwadar to Quetta and were reportedly abducted in Mastung.

The commission said the incident raises serious concerns about the state’s ability to secure key highways and protect civilians, especially professionals involved in education.

It also referred to the killing of Professor Ghamkhwar Hayat in Noshki, stating that such incidents deepen fears among educators and intellectuals in the province.

Rising Militant Violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, HRCP pointed to a growing pattern of violence in areas including Bannu, Bajaur, and Lakki Marwat.

The statement specifically mentioned a bomb attack on a crowded market in Sarai Naurang, describing it as part of an escalating wave of militant violence that has increasingly affected civilians, police, and security personnel.

HRCP urged authorities to take urgent steps to prevent further deterioration of law and order in the province.

Call for Accountability and Immediate Action

The rights commission stressed that official responses must go beyond condemnation and called for:

• Immediate recovery of missing university officials
• Credible and transparent investigations into all attacks
• Accountability for perpetrators of violence
• Stronger protection of civilians and public spaces

HRCP warned that continued insecurity in both provinces is eroding public trust and putting civilian lives at constant risk.
