From Harmandir Sahib to Durgiana Temple, Amritsar Shines for Bandi Chhor Divas and Diwali

Amritsar: Amritsar will witness the confluence of two sacred festivals today. Bandi Chhor Divas will be celebrated at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), while grand preparations are underway for Diwali at Sri Durgiana Temple.

One lakh ghee lamps will be lit at the Golden Temple this evening, and the lights will be illuminated with colorful fireworks. Meanwhile, at the Durgiana Temple, devotees will celebrate Diwali to mark Lord Shri Ram’s return to Ayodhya after 14 years. An estimated 3 lakh devotees are expected to attend the event.

Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji got 52 kings released on this day.

Giani Raghbir Singh, head granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, explained that Bandi Chhor Divas is not just a day of light, but also a symbol of freedom and justice. Guru Hargobind Sahib freed 52 kings imprisoned in Gwalior Fort and returned to Amritsar.

His return was celebrated by the devotees by lighting ghee lamps, decorating garlands of lamps, and bursting into fireworks. Since then, this day has been celebrated annually as Bandi Chhor Divas.

Message of freedom and humanity

Giani Raghbir Singh said that a true liberator is one who liberates others. This day symbolizes spiritual freedom, the victory of human rights, and the struggle against injustice.

He said that the Sikh faith always preaches the message of peace, love, and service. On this auspicious occasion, everyone should pledge to serve humanity and protect the environment.

Like every year, this time too Sri Harmandir Sahib will be illuminated with lamps and the Sikh community across the world will celebrate this day as an example of freedom in the memory of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.
