Bangkok Pub Fire Kills 27, Injures 63 as Massive Blaze Traps Patrons in Thailand

Bangkok: At least 27 people were killed and 63 others injured after a devastating fire swept through a popular pub in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, late Sunday night. The blaze broke out at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao (Na Ladprao Pub) in the city’s Chatuchak district, quickly filling the venue with thick smoke and trapping dozens of patrons inside. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.

Fire spread rapidly after reported explosion

According to Thai authorities, the fire started at around 11:57 p.m. local time. Survivors told investigators that smoke was first seen near the stage area, reportedly close to an electrical circuit breaker, before a loud explosion plunged the venue into darkness. Within minutes, dense smoke engulfed the pub, triggering panic among customers trying to escape.

Firefighters reached the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call and managed to bring the blaze under control in about 30 to 35 minutes. However, by then, much of the interior had been destroyed. Officials said smoke inhalation was responsible for many of the fatalities.

Victims trapped near restrooms as escape routes failed

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said many people rushed toward the rear of the pub, believing they could escape through the restroom area. However, they reportedly found no accessible emergency exit and became trapped as smoke rapidly spread throughout the building.

Emergency responders recovered several bodies near the restrooms. Of the 63 injured, 22 remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at nearby hospitals. Authorities are continuing efforts to identify all victims and assist their families.

Investigation underway as shocking videos emerge

Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the scene and confirmed that a full investigation has been ordered to establish the cause of the fire and examine whether fire safety regulations were followed at the establishment.

Videos circulating on social media showed terrified patrons running out of the burning pub as flames burst through the entrance and thick black smoke engulfed the building. Officials have urged the public not to speculate until forensic investigators complete their examination.

The tragedy is among Thailand’s deadliest entertainment venue fires in recent years and has once again raised concerns over fire safety standards and emergency evacuation measures in crowded nightlife establishments.
