Bangla Sahib Gurdwara Dispute: Delhi Police Registers FIR Against Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi:  The Delhi Police has registered an FIR regarding the alleged disturbance at the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in Delhi. This action was taken following a complaint from the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers have been accused of entering the Gurdwara premises and raising slogans. The complaint also names AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, party leaders, and MLAs.

What are the allegations made in the DSGMC’s complaint?

The complaint, filed by DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka, alleges that some AAP leaders and workers entered the Gurdwara premises and raised slogans. The complaint also alleges that party leaders shared videos of the incident on social media, allegedly misrepresenting the incident and blaming the Gurdwara management.

According to Delhi Police sources, an investigation has been initiated into the matter. The police are also investigating the video footage submitted with the complaint. Further information on this matter is awaited.

Controversy escalates after protesters enter Gurdwara

This incident comes amid allegations by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das. Das claimed that policemen entered the Gurdwara wearing boots and carrying weapons while attempting to detain protesters during the party’s protest on October 10. He also alleged that police officers pressured the Gurdwara management to remove the protesters from the premises.

Das said, “Whoever treats our Sikh brothers or any religious place like this… the end of this government is very near. I request our Sikh brothers to help us and fight against them.”

According to reports, hundreds of protesters who arrived at Jantar Mantar, near the Election Commission office, on Saturday to join the protest were unable to enter. They then proceeded to the nearby Bangla Sahib Gurdwara.

What did the Gurdwara management say?

On Sunday, Bhupinder Singh Bhullar, president of the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, stated that he, along with Harmeet Singh Kalka and other members of the DSGMC, met with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and submitted a complaint regarding the incident.

Bhullar stated that devotees are welcome to pray, partake of langar, and rest at the Gurdwara. He also stated that accommodation, medical facilities, and other assistance would be provided to those in need.

However, he clarified that no political party would be allowed to protest on the Gurdwara premises.

Police response to allegations of entering the Gurdwara wearing shoes

On Saturday, several opposition leaders shared videos on social media alleging that policemen entered the Gurdwara’s religious premises wearing shoes.

Regarding these allegations, the Delhi Police issued a statement stating that the video showed some policemen walking through the common path used by devotees to reach the shoe-removing area. According to the police, this is the route used by all devotees visiting the Gurdwara.

Delhi Police stated in a statement that the video was circulated with the malicious intent of inciting the sentiments of a respected religious community. They also stated that legal action was being initiated in the matter.
