Bathinda: Big success in petrol bomb case, 2 accused arrested

A day after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) began its investigation into the petrol bomb attack on a homoeopathic clinic located opposite the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office on Mela Ram Road, Bathinda Police today claimed to have solved the case by arresting two persons.

A senior police officer said, “Three persons were involved in the attack. Two of them have been arrested, while one is absconding and efforts are on to nab him. More details will be shared in a press conference this morning.”

It is noteworthy that an NIA team comprising a DSP and two inspectors visited the clinic on Wednesday and sought details from its owner Dr. Tarsem Garg.

Garg is a former Chief Warden of the Civil Defence Corps, Bathinda and Aam Aadmi Party leader. He has also served as the state secretary of the Punjab State Traders Commission. His wife Dr. Rajni Jindal, who contested the recent municipal elections as a BJP candidate, claimed that she received a WhatsApp call from a foreign number about two hours after the blast. The caller allegedly identified himself as Pakistan-based terrorist Shahzad Bhatti. Rajni said, “The caller later sent two messages with his name and ‘HI’.

The incident took place on Monday night. At the time, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was staying overnight in the city, less than a kilometre from the incident site. According to CCTV footage, two unidentified persons reached the clinic and one of them hurled a petrol bomb in the outer courtyard. The attack damaged a scooter and some plants and left fire marks on a window. However, no one was injured.

Garg said that two employees present at the clinic informed them about the blast and doused the fire. Police and forensic teams later visited the spot and collected evidence.
