Bathinda Tragedy: Father Killed, 9-Year-Old Daughter Critical After Scooter Slips Under Road Roller

Bathinda: A tragic accident occurred in Bathinda during road construction work when a father and daughter fell from their scooter and were run over by a road roller. The father died on the spot, while his 9-year-old daughter sustained critical injuries and was referred to AIIMS for treatment.

According to police, the incident took place on Friday in Ganesha Basti, near Street No. 9, where road construction work was underway. Vishal Gupta (35), a resident of Afeem Wali Gali, was travelling on a scooter with his daughter Mannat (9) when the vehicle suddenly skidded due to loose gravel scattered outside a house.

As the scooter slipped, both father and daughter fell onto the middle of the road. At the same moment, a road roller engaged in leveling work was reversing and ran over them. The rear wheel of the heavy roller passed over both victims. The driver reportedly stopped immediately after feeling the impact and rushed out of the vehicle. Panic erupted in the area as locals gathered at the scene.

Police stated that Vishal Gupta suffered severe head injuries after being crushed under the roller, leading to his death on the spot. His daughter remains in critical condition. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and questions are being raised over multiple lapses in safety measures at the construction site.

SHO Ravinder Singh of Civil Lines Police Station said police reached the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident. Statements from the victim’s family are being recorded, and further legal action is underway.
