BBMB Meeting Postponed; Chairman Manoj Tripathi Highlights New Hydro Project and CISF Deployment

Chandigarh: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) meeting was postponed with the mutual consent of all three members, BBMB Chairman Manoj Tripathi confirmed.

Speaking about correspondence sent to the SSP, Tripathi noted that meetings often include members from other states and senior officers from the Centre, necessitating a full security inspection beforehand

“As for the deployment of armed forces, I am not aware — that must have been communicated by the Security Branch,” he added.

New Hydro Project Using Canal Water Flow

Chairman Tripathi highlighted BBMB’s upcoming project: Surface Hydro Connect Turbine Technology, which is yet to be implemented in India.

“It will generate electricity using the flow of canal water and can be installed across all canals in the country,” Tripathi said, calling it a pioneering initiative for renewable energy in India.

Northern Council Meeting Scheduled for November 17

Tripathi stated that the Northern Council meeting is scheduled for November 17, with the Ministry seeking suggestions from all partner states ahead of the session.

“We are expecting inputs to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on upcoming projects and operational strategies,” he added.

CISF Deployment Explained

Clarifying concerns over armed force deployment, Tripathi said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is a specialized force trained for such duties.

“We received intelligence input from the IB, and the decision to deploy CISF was taken in 2021, formalized through an MoU in 2023–24. None of the states objected,” he said.

Tripathi emphasized that BBMB involves four states and two central members, making the CISF deployment a collective security measure, not specific to any single state.

BBMB continues to focus on innovative hydro solutions and coordinated inter-state operations, ensuring both energy security and regulatory compliance.

The upcoming Northern Council meeting is expected to provide further clarity on project timelines, security protocols, and interstate collaboration.
