BCCI Demands Return of Asia Cup Trophy from ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi After Post-Final Controversy

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has formally written to Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), requesting the return of the Asia Cup trophy that India won recently in Dubai.

India Declined to Receive Trophy from Naqvi

India clinched the Asia Cup title after defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final. However, during the post-match presentation ceremony, the Indian players declined to accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan’s Interior Minister.

According to reports, the Indian team had expressed willingness to receive the trophy from Emirates Cricket Board vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni, but Naqvi allegedly rejected the request.

    Trophy Removed from Venue

As the ceremony proceeded, Kuldeep Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma received their individual awards from other dignitaries. When Naqvi stepped onto the stage to present the main trophy, the Indian side made it clear they would not accept it from him.

Moments later, the trophy was discreetly removed from the venue, leaving the champions without their prize.

    BCCI Follows Up with ACC

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board has sent an official email to Naqvi and is awaiting a response.

“We are going step by step with the process and will keep pursuing the matter,” Saikia was quoted as saying, adding that if no response is received, the BCCI will escalate the issue to the ICC through a formal communication.

    Dispute Raised at ACC Meeting

The BCCI had earlier objected strongly during the ACC meeting on September 30 to the handling of the trophy presentation.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, who represented the board in the meeting, confronted Naqvi over the incident.

“Why was the trophy not handed over to the winning team? The ACC trophy is not the personal property of any individual,” Shukla reportedly said during the discussions.
