BCCI Bans India U19’s Rohit Yadav For Two Years Over Age Fraud; CAB Takes Action Against 64 Others

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned India U19 leg-spinner Rohit Yadav for two years over an alleged age discrepancy. Rohit was part of India’s recent U19 tour of Sri Lanka in July.

The development came after the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) conducted a pre-season documentation drive for its players. Rohit, who represents Bengal in domestic cricket, has subsequently been withdrawn from India’s upcoming U19 matches against Australia.

Rohit Yadav faces two-year BCCI ban

According to the CAB, Rohit Yadav was found to have an age discrepancy of 27 months. The ban has taken immediate effect, with all BCCI-affiliated state units notified about the decision.

India U19 are scheduled to face Australia in five one-day matches and three multi-day games later in September. Rohit has been removed from the squad for the upcoming fixtures following the action.

CAB bars 64 more players

The CAB has also barred 64 other players after finding similar age discrepancies during its documentation exercise.

Among the prominent names is left-arm pacer Ravi Kumar, who was part of India’s title-winning U19 World Cup campaign in 2022. He also made his senior Bengal debut that year and last played competitive cricket in 2023.

Ravi Kumar’s cricketing records from his debut through the 2025-26 season have been declared invalid as part of the action. According to reports, his alleged age discrepancy is as high as 40 months.

BCCI steps up age-fraud checks

The BCCI has been taking measures for several years to tackle cases of age fraud in domestic and age-group cricket.

In 2020, the board introduced an amnesty scheme under which players could voluntarily disclose discrepancies in their age-related documents and avoid suspension.

However, players who failed to disclose such discrepancies and were subsequently found to have violated the rules could face a ban.

The BCCI has also strengthened its age-verification process for U19 players. As part of the procedure, players are required to submit birth certificates along with educational documents wherever available.

The latest action against Rohit Yadav and the 64 other players underlines the board’s continued efforts to tighten age verification and prevent players from gaining an unfair advantage by misrepresenting their age.
