Stokes believes Harry Brook, who served as his vice-captain, was a natural choice to succeed him as England’s Test captain. He questioned why Brook was overlooked in favour of experienced campaigner Joe Root.

According to Stokes, Brook’s role as vice-captain showed that the England management trusted his leadership abilities. He also backed Brook’s potential to grow further as a player if given greater responsibility.
