Bengal Assembly Elections: 73% Turnout In Magrahat Paschim, 72% In Diamond Harbour Till 3 PM, Massive protest Erupts in Falta

West Bengal: Repolling in 15 polling booths across West Bengal’s Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim assembly constituencies witnessed strong voter participation on Saturday, with turnout reaching 86% in Magrahat Paschim and 88% in Diamond Harbour by 5 PM.

Repoll Ordered in 15 Booths Amid Irregularity Complaints

The Election Commission had ordered repolling in the booths following complaints of alleged irregularities and election malpractice during the earlier phase of voting. Of the 15 booths, 11 are located in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour.

Polling began under tight security arrangements, though tensions were reported from Falta in South 24 Parganas, where supporters of the Trinamool Congress and BJP allegedly clashed during the repoll process. Visuals from the area showed chaotic scenes as rival groups confronted each other.

Falta Residents Protest Alleged Poll Rigging

Election officials said security forces remained deployed in sensitive areas to ensure the repolling process continued smoothly amid heightened political tensions ahead of vote counting.

Residents of West Bengal’s Falta Assembly constituency staged protests on Saturday alleging poll rigging, threats and violence by Trinamool Congress workers during the Assembly elections.

    Allegations of Threats and Intimidation

Locals accused TMC activists of threatening women, children and BJP supporters in the area. They alleged residents were intimidated and prevented from moving freely or going to work.

Protesters claimed voting has been rigged in the constituency for years and demanded repolling at booth number 109 before results are declared on May 4.

    Police Accused of Using Force

Women protesters alleged police resorted to cane charge during the protest and accused officers of assaulting female demonstrators. CRPF personnel were deployed in the area to maintain law and order amid rising tensions.
