Woman Found Dead With Multiple Injuries at Rented House in Bengal, Police Suspect Murder

Kolkata: A 32-year-old woman was found dead with multiple injury marks at her rented house in the Dum Dum Cantonment area of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Thursday, with police suspecting murder.

The deceased, identified as Jaya Pramanik, was found lying on the floor of her rented house in the Subhashnagar area in the early hours of Thursday. Her body was reportedly covered in blood and wrapped in a blanket.

Police suspect that the incident took place late on Wednesday night and have launched an investigation.

Woman Found Dead After Failing to Return Home

According to police, Jaya lived in a rented house in Dum Dum Cantonment and had a three-year-old son. She travelled to different places for work and would leave her child at an acquaintance’s house in Shyambazar, north Kolkata.

Jaya was expected to return home with her son on Wednesday night. However, when she could not be contacted, some of her acquaintances went to check on her.

They opened the door of the house in the early hours of Thursday and found Jaya’s body lying on the floor. Police said multiple injury marks were visible on her body.

The body has been sent to Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police Probe Possible Murder

Based on preliminary findings, police suspect that Jaya was murdered. Investigators are questioning people known to the woman and examining circumstances surrounding her death.

Some local residents claimed that Jaya worked as a sex worker and alleged that a young man from the Jheel Colony area of Bediapara frequently visited her house. Police are trying to trace and question the man as part of the investigation.

However, the allegations made by locals have not been independently established by police.

CCTV Footage Under Scanner

Police are also examining CCTV footage from the area. There were allegations that a CCTV camera installed in front of the rented house had been damaged.

Police said they had obtained footage showing people entering and leaving the house and were examining the recordings for clues. Jaya’s acquaintances and some relatives have also been questioned.

A senior officer of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate said a case had been registered under relevant sections and that the exact cause of death would be established after the post-mortem report.

The investigation is underway.
