Bengaluru Engineer Kills Friend After Drunken Fight; Dashcam

A shocking incident in Bengaluru’s Electronics City turned a post-cricket match celebration into a violent crime scene after a software engineer allegedly killed his friend following a drunken argument, police said on Monday. The entire episode — initially thought to be a road accident — was captured on the SUV’s dashcam, which ultimately helped investigators determine that the crash was intentional.

    Clash After Cricket Tournament

Police said the incident took place Sunday evening after a group of friends had gathered to consume alcohol following a local cricket tournament near a ground behind a mall in Kammasandra village. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Prashanth M, and his friend Roshan Hegde (37) — a software engineer — got into a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into violence.

According to initial reports, the disagreement was triggered over a cigarette lighter, and both men allegedly assaulted each other with beer bottles during the drunken brawl, leaving Hegde with a cut on his tongue.

     Dashcam Footage Reveals Cold-Blooded Act

Following the scuffle, Hegde reportedly drove off in his SUV, but Prashanth ran after the vehicle and clung to its door and footboard as it sped down Veerasandra-Kammasandra Road. Dashcam footage later reviewed by police revealed that Hegde deliberately accelerated, lost control, and drove the SUV into a compound wall and a tree, striking Prashanth — who was still hanging on — resulting in fatal injuries at the scene.

What initially came in as a report of a “road accident” was transformed into a murder investigation after police examined the dashcam video. They registered a case under appropriate murder provisions and moved quickly to take action.

     Police Action & Arrest

The Hebbagodi police arrested Roshan Hegde shortly after the horrific incident, based on the dashcam evidence and witness statements. During the preliminary inquiry, officers confirmed that the crash was not accidental, but a deliberate act. Prashanth was declared dead at the scene from severe head and chest injuries, while Hegde sustained minor injuries during the crash and was detained after treatment.

Police have seized the Tata Safari SUV involved in the crime and are continuing with the investigation, including looking into motives beyond the immediate argument.

     Community Reaction & Safety Concerns

The incident has sent shockwaves across Bengaluru, raising concerns about alcohol-fueled disputes, road rage and the tragic outcomes that can follow seemingly minor quarrels. Residents and local groups emphasize the importance of conflict de-escalation, responsible behavior after social events, and the role of dashcam footage in securing justice.

Police have urged citizens to come forward with any additional footage or witnesses that might help strengthen the case and ensure that all aspects of the crime are thoroughly examined
