The Bengaluru Police on Saturday arrested terror suspect Arshad Khan, who had been evading arrest for several months, police said. The arrest comes after an intensive investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and local law enforcement agencies.
Khan was taken into custody from a location in Bengaluru, Karnataka, where he had reportedly been hiding while remaining on the most-wanted list of terror suspects, officials said.
Arshad Khan was wanted in connection with terror-related activities and multiple cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), sources said. He had been declared a fugitive after reportedly fleeing authorities shortly after chargesheets were filed by the NIA.
The agency had been probing his alleged links with a terror module suspected of planning violent acts and conspiracies to unsettle public order in parts of south India.
Bengaluru Police carried out extensive surveillance, coordination with intelligence units, and undercover tracking to ascertain the suspect’s movements. Officials said a breakthrough came after intercepts and leads pointed to his presence in the city, resulting in a targeted operation to apprehend him safely without any confrontation.
No exchange of fire or injuries were reported during the arrest operation.
Following the arrest, the National Investigation Agency has taken custody of Arshad Khan for further interrogation and processing. Investigators are expected to delve deeper into his associations, motives, and any other individuals linked to the terror module.
Authorities stressed that more arrests may follow as the probe progresses.
Senior police officials said the arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to track and apprehend terror suspects, even after prolonged evasion. They assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain law and order.
