Bengaluru is set to inaugurate what is being described as Asia’s largest Integrated Water and Sewerage Command Centre, a major technological upgrade aimed at transforming the city’s water management and wastewater monitoring systems.
The facility, developed by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), will centrally monitor drinking water supply and sewage networks across the city using advanced digital systems, real-time data tracking, and artificial intelligence-based analytics.
Major Step in Urban Water Management
The command centre is part of a broader modernisation drive to improve efficiency in water distribution and sewage treatment. Officials say the system will enable real-time monitoring of pipelines, reservoirs, and treatment plants, helping quickly detect leaks, contamination, or supply disruptions.
AI-Based Monitoring and Control System
The centre will use AI tools to predict water demand across different regions of Bengaluru and optimise supply accordingly. It will also help identify pipeline leaks instantly, reducing water wastage and improving service reliability for consumers.
Integrated Network of Water Infrastructure
The system will be connected to key water treatment plants, reservoirs, and sewage treatment facilities across the city. This integration will allow authorities to manage both supply and wastewater operations under a single unified platform.
Focus on Transparency and Efficiency
Officials said the project is designed to bring greater transparency in water management while ensuring faster response times to infrastructure issues. The initiative is expected to significantly improve Bengaluru’s urban water governance model as the city continues to grow rapidly.
Part of Larger Cauvery Water Project
The command centre is also linked to the ongoing Cauvery water supply expansion projects, which aim to strengthen drinking water supply for Bengaluru and surrounding regions through upgraded infrastructure and enhanced distribution systems.
