Bhai Baldev Singh Vadala Launches Scathing Attack on SGPC Over Corruption, Financial Irregularities

Amritsar: A fresh political and religious storm appears to be brewing in Punjab after former Hazoori Ragi of the Golden Temple, Bhai Baldev Singh Vadala, launched a scathing attack on the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and its leadership.

Bhai Baldev Singh Vadala, who has been a prominent critic of the SGPC and the Shiromani Akali Dal since his suspension in 2015, raised a series of pointed questions directed at SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami. In a strongly worded statement, he accused the committee of failing to provide answers to long-standing allegations of corruption, mismanagement, and financial irregularities.

Questions Raised Over Missing Sacred Artefacts

In his remarks, Vadala questioned the alleged disappearance of several sacred saroops and handwritten manuscripts. He asked about the whereabouts of 328 holy saroops, 319 handwritten forms, and 886 allegedly unauthorised printed religious copies that were reportedly meant for distribution. He sought clarification on how such serious matters remained unresolved for years.

He also raised questions about the accountability of office bearers, presidents, external committee members, religious propaganda committee members, and officials of the research department. He demanded to know what action had been taken against those allegedly responsible and whether any legal punishments or departmental proceedings had followed.

He further alleged financial scams related to Golak collections, land dealings, and langar funds. He questioned the status of what he described as a missing gold urn linked to Alamgir and demanded transparency regarding financial transactions.

Allegations of Financial Irregularities and Scams

Bhai Baldev Singh Vadala specifically asked what happened to Rs 9 crore allegedly linked to a chartered accountant and raised concerns about a Rs 2.70 crore property in Sri Anandpur Sahib. He pressed for details on what future safeguards had been implemented to prevent similar alleged scams.

In his statement, Vadala suggested that the list of issues was extensive and accused the leadership of failing to answer these concerns despite repeated demands. He implied that those in power had lost moral authority and questioned their right to continue without addressing the allegations.

Institutional Concerns and Leadership Crisis

Referring to a former SGPC employee, Ramandeep Singh, he stated that honest individuals often resign when faced with injustice and disrespect, suggesting that such resignations reflected deeper institutional issues.

So far, the SGPC has not issued an official response to the latest allegations. The controversy has reignited debate within Sikh religious and political circles, with observers closely watching how the committee responds to these serious claims.
