Bhullar Bail Rejected by Punjab & Haryana High Court

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday rejected the regular bail plea of suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who is currently in judicial custody at Chandigarh Model Jail in connection with alleged corruption and bribery cases, legal sources said.

Bhullar’s Bail Plea and Court Ruling

Bhullar had approached the High Court on January 9, seeking the grant of regular bail. His lawyers argued that the investigations had concluded and that the final chargesheet had already been filed in December 2025, making further custodial interrogation unnecessary.

However, the High Court dismissed the plea, holding that the nature and seriousness of the allegations warranted his continued custody while the legal process continues. The court’s decision means Bhullar will remain in jail as the case proceeds.

Background of the Case

Bhullar, a senior IPS officer of the 2007 batch and former DIG of the Ropar Range, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in October 2025 in connection with a high‑profile bribery and corruption case. He, along with an alleged middleman, was accused of seeking illegal payments in exchange for favours related to police investigations.

In previous court proceedings before a CBI court in Chandigarh, his bail applications were also dismissed, reinforcing the judiciary’s position that custodial interrogation and the ongoing investigation remain crucial.
