Jalandhar: Tension gripped the Maqsudan Mandi area after firing broke out during a dispute between two hawkers on Tuesday evening. In the incident, a BJP leader identified as Monu Puri and his companion sustained bullet injuries.
According to information received, the dispute was reportedly related to a hawking issue between Monu Puri and another vendor. At around 5 PM, both parties allegedly came face to face in Maqsudan Mandi, following which a heated argument took place.
Eyewitnesses stated that after the altercation, some youths accompanying Monu Puri allegedly opened fire on the ground. Around four rounds were reportedly fired during the incident. One bullet struck Monu Puri in the leg, while another hit his companion in the leg.
Local residents immediately informed the police, after which both injured persons were rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable.
Police teams reached the spot soon after the incident and have launched an investigation. Officials are examining CCTV footage and recording statements of eyewitnesses to determine the exact sequence of events.
