Big change in flight schedule at Amritsar Airport from April 1, runway to remain closed till this time

A major change has been made in the flight operations during the summer schedule at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport, Amritsar. This decision has been taken in view of the runway repair and upgradation works by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Airport Director Bhupinder Singh informed the media that, as per the issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), the runway will remain completely non-operational from 1:45 PM to 9:45 PM every day from April 1, 2026, to September 27, 2026.

No flights will be operated during this period. All airlines have changed their arrival and departure timings, and flights will be operated before or after the closure timings. The summer schedule at Amritsar Airport includes 62 flights: 40 domestic and 22 international.

The airport is connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Kullu, Srinagar and Pune, while internationally it operates flights to Doha, Dubai, Singapore, Birmingham, London Gatwick, Kuala Lumpur, Sharjah and Bangkok.

The airport administration will also be re-carpeting the runway, which is approximately 3658 metres long and 60 metres wide. This work will be done in two layers, ensuring safe landing and take-off of large aircraft like Boeing 747-800. In addition, RESA (Runway and Safety Area) will be developed at both ends of the runway as per international standards.

More than 2000 old AGL lights at the airport will be replaced with LED lights, which will provide better visibility with less power consumption. Along with this, ILCMS (Individual Light Control Monitoring System) will also be installed, which will reduce the time for checking lights during low visibility and flights will be able to operate more safely and quickly.

The airport management has appealed to the passengers to check the updated flight schedule with their respective airlines before travelling. The administration says that all these works are necessary for the safety of the passengers and better services in the future. Expressing regret for the inconvenience caused during this, the passengers have been appealed for cooperation.
