Big relief to rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh: Court accepts closure report in 2018 Case

Rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh received major relief from the National Lok Adalat in Mohali. The court accepted the police’s closure report and quashed the FIR in a six-year-old case related to the alleged use of derogatory and obscene words against women in his popular 2018 song Makhna.

The FIR was registered at the Mataur police station in Mohali under sections 294 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, section 67 of the IT Act, and section 6 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

    What’s the matter?
The complaint was filed by Manisha Gulati, then chairperson of the Punjab State Women’s Commission, and ASI Lakhwinder Kaur. During the hearing, both complainants informed the court that they had no objection to the quashing of the FIR.

    Court Order
Presiding Officer Anish Goyal ordered the quashing of the FIR in light of the police’s closure report and the complainants’ consent. With this, the case against Honey Singh officially closed.

    Controversy erupted in 2019
Following the FIR filed in 2019, there was widespread discussion about the song’s lyrics and their impact on society. At that time, the Punjab Women’s Commission even recommended a ban on the song, citing its objectionable content. This controversy has now ended with the Lok Adalat’s decision.
