Big Relief: US lifts sanctions on four Indian companies, accused of aiding Russia

The US has removed four Indian companies from its sanctions list; these companies had previously been sanctioned for allegedly supplying technology and equipment to Russia’s military-industrial sector.

They have been removed from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) list maintained by the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Does this signal a thawing in India-US relations, given the recent strain caused by tariff-related issues?

What the US Department of the Treasury said
According to information shared by the US Department of the Treasury on Tuesday, the four Indian companies removed from the list include Hyderabad-based RRG Engineering Technologies Private Limited and Lokesh Machines Limited, Ahmedabad-based Galaxy Bearings, and New Delhi-based Shaurya Aeronautics Private Limited.

What were the allegations against the Indian companies?
The US had imposed sanctions on Galaxy Bearings Limited in October 2024. The company was accused of exporting dozens of shipments of high-priority dual-use equipment—including roller bearings and roller assemblies, to various Russian entities.

Meanwhile, Shaurya Aeronautics Private Limited was accused of shipping radar equipment, radio navigation aids, radio remote control equipment, and other electrical devices to Russia.

The US had accused RRG Engineering Technologies of shipping over 100 consignments of microelectronics to Artex Limited, a Russia-based company that is also on the SDN list.

Additionally, Lokesh Machines Limited was accused of supplying dozens of shipments of machine tools to various manufacturing companies in Russia.
