Bihar Assembly Polls: BJP, JD(U) to Contest 101 Seats Each, Announces Dharmendra Pradhan

New Delhi: Ending days of speculation over seat-sharing among the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners in Bihar, Union Minister and BJP’s Bihar in-charge Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) will contest 101 seats each in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The remaining seats will be shared among the NDA’s smaller allies — Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP (R)], Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM).

Seat-Sharing Formula Finalised

Pradhan made the announcement on social media after a series of meetings among the NDA partners in Delhi and Patna to finalise the formula.

“We, the NDA allies, have completed the seat-sharing in a cordial atmosphere. JD(U) — 101, BJP — 101, LJP (Ram Vilas) — 29, Rashtriya Lok Morcha — 6, and Hindustani Awam Morcha — 6,” Pradhan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

He further wrote, “All NDA workers and leaders warmly welcome this arrangement. Bihar is ready — once again, the NDA government.”

Alliance Partners Welcome the Decision

LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan also confirmed the agreement on X, stating that the “NDA family is united” and all allies will jointly contest the election “with full force to ensure the return of the NDA government in Bihar.”

Similarly, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), led by former Bihar Chief Minister and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), headed by Upendra Kushwaha, have each been allocated six seats.

Poll Schedule and Key Contenders

The first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections will take place on November 6, followed by the second phase on November 11. Counting of votes will be held on November 14.

The Nitish Kumar-led NDA alliance and the Tejashwi Yadav-led Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) are seen as the main contenders in this high-stakes political battle.

However, the entry of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has added a new dimension, potentially turning the Bihar polls into a triangular contest.
