Bihar CM chairs high-level meeting on flood, directs officials to remain alert

Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar led a high-level meeting in Patna to assess the flood situation across ten districts, instructing officials to stay vigilant and ensure preparations for residents in case water levels rise further.

Officials said about 25 lakh people in Bhojpur, Patna, Saran, Vaishali, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, and Katihar along the Ganga are affected. The meeting noted that 16 NDRF and SDRF teams are conducting rescue operations, aided by 1,293 boats deployed in the affected areas. No fatalities have been reported so far.

The CM directed district magistrates to compile lists of affected people to facilitate rapid flood-relief distribution. Persistent rainfall has caused rivers to swell, with water levels rising in the Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati, Burhi Gandak, Punpun, and Ghaghara. Several stretches are above the danger mark in multiple districts.

Present at the meeting were Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, Disaster Management Minister Vijay Kumar Mandal, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, Water Resources Department Principal Secretary Santosh Kumar Mall, and other senior officials.
