Patna, Bihar: After assuming charge as Bihar’s Home Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday adopted a firm stance on strengthening law and order, issuing a tough warning that no criminal in the state would be spared.

Choudhary stated that the police now have full freedom to act and are “no longer bound”, emphasising that decisive action against offenders is a top priority.

He added that the Home Ministry will function under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and reiterated that criminals have no place in Bihar.

He assured that good governance—established under the current state leadership—would continue even more firmly, adding that the “jungle raj” eliminated in previous years would not be allowed to return.

Responding to a question regarding his earlier controversial remark suggesting that criminals would be “cremated in Gaya”, Choudhary said that the police are simply doing their job.

First Time Since 2005 That BJP Gets Home Portfolio

This marks the first occasion since 2005 that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has allocated the Home Department to the BJP.

A total of 26 Ministers were sworn in alongside Nitish Kumar in the newly formed Cabinet. Samrat Choudhary will serve simultaneously as Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister, while Vijay Kumar Sinha has also been appointed Deputy Chief Minister, holding the portfolios of Revenue, Land Reforms, and Mining.

Ministers from all NDA constituents have been included in the Cabinet.

Cabinet Composition and Budget Share

The BJP has the highest representation with 14 Ministers, followed by the JD-U with eight, LJP–Ram Vilas with two, HAM with one, and RLM with one.

However, despite its numerical strength, the BJP’s share of the allocated departmental budget is lower than the JD-U’s.

• BJP controls 29.22% of the total budget

• LJP-RV Ministers: 0.91%

• HAM: 0.58%

• RLM: 3.56%

The remaining ~65% of the budget remains with the JD-U.

The restructured Cabinet highlights a balance of political power within the NDA while reinforcing a renewed focus on law and order under Choudhary’s leadership.
