Bihar Man Arrested for Allegedly Strangling Wife to Death in Bengaluru After Frequent Domestic Disputes

Bengaluru: A 24-year-old man from Bihar has been arrested for allegedly strangling his wife to death in Bengaluru following repeated domestic disputes over her alleged mobile phone addiction, social media reel-making and insistence on returning to Bihar, police said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Dhiraj Kumar, a resident of East Champaran district in Bihar, was arrested by a special team of the Kumbalagodu Police after he fled to his native state following the alleged murder of his wife, Reema Kumari.

Frequent arguments allegedly led to murder

According to police, the couple had married around 10 months ago after a love marriage and had shifted to Bengaluru without informing Reema’s family. They were living in a rented accommodation in Gerupalya under the Kumbalagodu police station limits.

During interrogation, Dhiraj allegedly told investigators that the couple frequently argued over Reema’s habit of spending long hours on her mobile phone and making social media reels. He also claimed she wanted him to leave Bengaluru and return to Bihar, leading to repeated quarrels.

Police further alleged that during one such argument, Reema hit him with a stick. Enraged, Dhiraj allegedly strangled her to death using her dupatta.

Body found days later; accused fled to Bihar

After the alleged murder, Dhiraj is accused of wrapping Reema’s face in plastic, covering the body with a bedsheet and leaving it inside their rented room before fleeing to Bihar.

The crime came to light on July 29, when the building owner, alerted by one of Reema’s acquaintances about a foul smell, entered the room and found her decomposed body. Police were immediately informed.

Accused traced and arrested

Based on the complaint, Kumbalagodu Police registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence. A special investigation team later traced Dhiraj to Bihar and arrested him.

Police said the accused has allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. Investigators have also collected CCTV footage and scientific evidence as part of the investigation. Further probe is underway.
