Bihar: Police resort to lathi charge as TRE 4 aspirants protest in Patna; several students injured

In Patna, police have taken action against candidates protesting to demand the release of the TRE 4 recruitment advertisement and amendments to the BPSC regulations. As the protest march, which had set out from Patna College, reached the JP Roundabout, a tense situation arose between the police and the thousands of candidates who had gathered there in large numbers.

Amidst this standoff, the police resorted to a lathi-charge against the protesting candidates, resulting in injuries to several students. Led by student leader Dilip, this movement saw candidates continuously protesting against delays in the examination process and demanding the immediate release of the recruitment advertisement.

The students had marched from Patna College towards the office of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) but were halted at the JP Roundabout. During the incident, several student leaders were also taken into custody.

Candidates’ Demands and the Movement

Student leader Dilip stated that lakhs of candidates for TRE 4 have been awaiting vacancies for the past two years. He alleged that for the last year, the Education Minister has repeatedly claimed that vacancies would be announced within 10 to 15 days; furthermore, assurances regarding the speedy release of the TRE 4 advertisement were given both prior to and during the recent elections. Dilip Kumar pointed out that while, on one hand, the government speaks of TRE 4 vacancies, on the other, the BPSC has failed to issue the advertisement despite having received the formal requisition. He alleged that the Education Department and the BPSC are committing an injustice against lakhs of candidates. He warned that if the TRE 4 advertisement is not released soon, a massive protest movement will be launched once again in Patna.

**BPSC Notice and Allegations**

In the second week of February, the BPSC issued a notice stating that it had received the requisition and that the TRE 4 advertisement would be released shortly; however, to date, the advertisement has not been issued. Dilip Kumar alleged that TRE 4 candidates have been repeatedly misled. He noted that while they continue to wait for the advertisement, thousands of candidates are nearing or crossing the prescribed age limit for eligibility.
